Turtle nesting Tour

Turtle nestingWe invite you to see one of the most amazing animals on this planet: The Baula Leatherback Turtle, treasures of this National Park.

The entire Playa Grande shoreline is protected within the 445-hectare (1,100-acre) Parque Nacional Marino Las Baulas, which guards the prime nesting site of the leatherback turtle on the Pacific coast, including 22,000 hectares (54,000 acres) out to sea. The beach was incorporated into the National Park system in 1990 after a 15-year battle between developers and conservationists.

The nesting season for the giant leatherback is from October till March, when females come ashore every night at high tide. A decade ago, as many as 100 turtles might be seen in a single night; today, on a good night, a dozen might come ashore. Each female leatherback will nest as many as 12 times a season, every 10 days or so (usually at night to avoid dehydration).

The beaches are closed for publics at night to protect the nesting turtles so the only possibility to see a Leatherback Turtle is to go on a guided tour that makes sure the turles are protected.
The certified tour guides will provide you with all the information about these amazing animals and if you are lucky you can see the whole nesting procedure.

What to Bring: Comfortable clothes, walking shoes, camera (turn off the flash!), and most important: a lot of patience! It might take some hours until you spot a turtle so be prepared for some waiting time. It’s worth it!

Price Turtle tour: $25 - $55 (Including guide and park entrance fee)

What better way to start your canopy tour than at the top of the Guanacaste tree, the national tree of Costa Rica. You will ascend this tree by a winding staircase until you arrive at the first platform that is 20 meters up. Then you will zip from one platform to another with the use of cables and pulleys, above on of the last unique and impressive dry forests in the area.

At these heights you can see and listen to many animals, for example, monkeys, iguanas, raccoons, armadillos, and a great variety of native and migratory birds, as well as a great quantity of butterflies, a part of the biodiversity of plants, trees and lianas.

The tour lasts between one or two hours depending on the size of the group, you will have plenty of time to take photographs, or videos.

The final cable of the tour brings you into a rustic typical ranch, here you will be able to enjoy a hydrating drink, and if you wish, you can buy a souvenir from our shop.

Along with the Canopy tour there also are wonderful and extensive trails through the forest, from these you can enjoy the marvels of the Barba de Viejo River and see some other animals besides those that you could see from the platforms.
